Stay Somewhere Noteworthy In The Land Of Luck
Ireland is known for both its sprawling natural landscape and its city nightlife, full of people filled to overflowing with famous Irish booze. But after a night of getting rowdy or a day of strolling through nature, either way you are going to need somewhere to put your head down. Ireland has many hotels that are capable of satisfying your needs, but you probably didn’t come here just to do the usual. The quirky Irish charm stretches out into its accommodation here too, take a look at these very non-conventional places to catch 40 winks.
Now you may be saying to yourself this isn’t out of the ordinary, especially in Ireland where many B&Bs obviously double as pubs, but hold on. This pub is yours for the night and although there isn’t an endless supply of alcohol (or any for that matter) there is an authentic bar and pub area. Its like staying n the set of a TV show, except without any actors, but feel free to relive your favourite scenes in a legitimate looking local where you can sleep, and just so you know the real pub is just down the street.
The black castle in Coolbawn has been through an extensive restoration turning it from a derelict ruin into a place suitable for slumber. This place looks the part from the outside as its rectangular tower peers out over the surrounding hills, scattered with narrow windows all over. Inside is no different as you will be sleeping surrounded by lots of seemingly untouched stone and wood furnishings, now with all the modern conveniences, you know like a flushable toilet.
This isn’t some dodgy Ikea-like kids playroom that has been dodgily knocked up by a semi-competent Dad, these are fully functioning expansive rooms up in the trees. You are probably going to want to check on the weather before staying here as some of these areas are very much open out into the woodland, but if you do get here on a sunny day you will be able to enjoy the natural blissful views from the canopy. If you’ve ever wanted to live like a classy Tarzan, then this is your chance without the deadly creatures of the rainforest ruining your hot tub time.
If you are a fan of staring out at the sea for hours on end, this may be a perfect place for you. In Wicklow you can actually stay in a real lighthouse, surrounded by the sea with the salty breeze greeting you as you arrive. With rooms on several floors as you head up, be aware that this is a lighthouse and therefore you will be climbing lots and lots of stairs. Not recommended after a drunken bender in the town.
