Belfast is an extremely interesting city. It is the largest city in Northern Ireland and is the second largest city on the Irish island. It is the capital of Northern Ireland and the home of many fascinating historical events. It is located on the river Lagan and was at one point the centre of linen, tobacco and rope making. It is probably most well-known for its ship building industry. Harland and Wolff built the RMS Titanic in Belfast and at the time it was the world’s largest and most productive shipyard. Belfast is truly full of so much rich history and culture and there is so much to see and do. The Titanic Museum

This is an absolute must for anyone visiting Belfast, whether you are interested in maritime history or not this museum is just purely fascinating. There is a full-size reconstruction of the titanic so that you can get an idea of what a truly astounding monumental feat it was to be built at that time. There are interactive features that take you through the entire journey of the vessel, from being built up until it sadly sank. The building itself is designed to look like icebergs, a sad but true reminder of how the great ship was taken down. While the museum is somewhat solemn it is most definitely a must see when you are in Belfast.

The Ulster Museum

This museum is located right in the centre of the city, near the university, which if you have time is worth a visit as well. At the Ulster museum you can see a collection of natural artefacts from dinosaur bones to mummies and so much more. There are ancient relics that show the history of Ireland. The entrance to the museum is free and it is located near a botanic garden which is a great location wot walk through and grab a quick coffee if you are feeling a bit of a chill from the Irish wind.

The Crumlin Road Gaol (Jail)

This is the only remaining prison from the Victorian era and it gives you a great insight into the crime that went on in Belfast in the past. There is a one-hour tour that takes you through the building, it will show you where the famous criminals were held and executed and how they were transported from the jail house to the court room. It is a great way to learn more about the rich history that makes Belfast the city it is today.
